Charles Eames, Ray Eames

1970

The second-generation Drafting Chair, introduced in 1969, retains many of the design choices of the first, with one exception—casters. The first version of the Drafting Chair had elegant tubular legs that were very strong but too narrow to fit with casters. Since these chairs were intended for heavy use in an office setting, they needed to be sturdy and flexible. The updated version retains the steel foot ring, and the new base can accommodate either casters or glides.
