DSS-1
Charles Eames, Ray Eames
1963
Naugahyde, a brand of synthetic leather, was commonly used to upholster the Side Chairs. This DSS-1 became very popular for schools and auditoriums because they could be stacked for storage and the interlocking side brackets used to create long, orderly rows of chairs. DSS stands for Dining (height) Side (chair) Stacking (base) 1 (upholstered).
A black square stamp with illegible content and the numbers “505252” are printed in black on the underside of the shell.
