City Palace Jaipur
1970
As evidenced by this postcard sent by Ray Eames to her sister- and brother-in-law, she and Charles traveled to India in 1970—one of many trips where their attention was largely focused on developments with the National Institute of Design in Ahmedabad, located in the western state of Gujarat, but also allowed for travel to other destinations such as the city of Jaipur pictured here. Ray notes that the experience had been a “glorious, rushed, facinating [sic], frustrating, memorable journey.” Although the postcard was purchased in India, it is postmarked from Auckland, New Zealand, a penultimate stopover before returning to Los Angeles via Hawaii.
